There is just something magical about golden hour sessions, when the sun is just about to set and everything is covered with a warm glow! I love lifestyle sessions, when everyone can just relax, play and enjoy one another. I always give clients guidance and direction for posing and help to set everyone up for joy-filled, authentic interactions. It is always fun to see how each family's personalities and relationships create such unique images!
How would you describe your photographic style?
I am a fine art photographer with an organic and playful approach. My goal is to capture the current chapter in your family's life and while I do give some gentle posing guidance, I also like prompt some fun and then step back to capture the magic of laughter and love.
When you book a session with me, I'll have you fill out a questionnaire so that I can get to know your family's story and personalities. I also want to know if there are special things you want to bottle up and remember when you look back. This might be how your oldest is a such a sweet, little mama to her baby brother or how daddy likes to dance with his daughters or maybe it's your newborn's incredibly tiny toes. Check out my family and newborn portfolios to see what to expect in the photos I deliver.
Will I get the digital images from my session?
Yes! My session pricing is simple and all-inclusive. I deliver at least 40 images in your digital gallery, printing rights included. I know it is important to invest in prints and products that will endure the test of time, so you can purchase heirloom-quality prints and canvases right from your gallery. You can also feel free to share all your favorite images with family & friends on social media and use them for your holiday cards!
Where will my session take place?
Family sessions usually take place outside in a natural setting or in a charming, historic downtown area. I have some favorite locations that have beautiful light and backdrops, but if you have a special place of meaning in mind (perhaps your home!) we can absolutely discuss different options. After filling out your client questionnaire, we'll nail down a great location to fit your family's needs and personality!
Newborn sessions always take place in your home, where everyone is comfortable being themselves! Welcoming a new baby into your home is a huge milestone in your family's history and it is so important to document all the special details wrapped up in this memory: the siblings helping out, mom and dad smitten over their newest addition, your baby sleeping perfectly curled up or his perfect glance up at you as you cradle him in your arms. Oftentimes, a special nursery space has been carefully prepared with love and I'll capture all those details as well!
What should I wear?
One of my main goals is to create beautiful, timeless art that you can cherish for years and generations to come. When choosing outfits, think soft neutrals like cream and varying shades of gray. Consider adding muted blues or pinks for hints of color. In the fall, when the chance of gray, overcast days are common, rich pops of color like gold and red look amazing. Have fun with layers and textures for interest and personality! Most importantly, choose outfits that you feel confident and comfortable in! Many clients have texted or emailed photos of outfits laid out or key items found while shopping to ask for feedback. I'm always happy to help!
What if my kids don't "cooperate?"
You can set your family up for success by telling them how much fun they are going to have at our session! I'm not after that perfectly posed shot with everyone looking straight at the camera with a polished smile. Often, I do get a few of those, but it is not my priority so most of our time will be spent running, twirling, tickling, cuddling and kissing. I know from personal experience that it can be a bit of a whirlwind getting everyone dressed, well-fed, hair combed and faces cleaned...not to mention getting yourself ready! Once you arrive, though, take a deep breath, relax and get ready to just love on your family!
When we welcomed our 1st baby boy into our family, we hired a professional photographer to document the joy-filled homecoming. At home were three little sisters who had been eagerly waiting for that first time they'd be able to hold their first baby brother! I wanted to bottle up these beautiful, fleeting moments that I know I wouldn't remember as long as I'd hope to. Enter photography. Photography is an incredible gift that allows us to capture these memories to look back on time and time again, flooding our hearts with all the emotions we felt during that time in our lives.
My husband and I were in love with all the photos we received in our gallery and immediately downloaded all of them. I went online to start planning out which images I'd print and hang on our walls. I wandered into the Photo Album section and knew right away that we needed one.
I designed the perfect album, placed my order and practically sat by the door, waiting for it to come in the mail (ok, not exactly, but I did keep peering out the window and tracking the package!). When I opened the box, I was so impressed with the beauty and quality of this book! Most of all, I was so grateful to have the entire story of our session bound in a beautiful heirloom album.
In our digital age, it's no wonder everyone wants to own the high-resolution files from their session (myself included!) and it's why I offer simple packages to my clients, including printing rights to ALL their photos. However, I've over-the-moon-excitied to now be offering Signature Storybook Albums as a very special add-on!
Pricing starts at $150 for an 8x8", 20-page, linen-wrapped album with a custom, matte-gold or matte-silver title. These books are a must-have and here are 5 reasons why:
1. Storybook Albums capture the whole story.
It is so important to fill your walls with beautiful memories by ordering prints and canvases of session photos, but there are SO many moments that you just can't hang them all. An album allows you to be able to have the entire story of your session, and all those special, little in-between moments bound all together.
2. You can hold it in your hands.
Sure, you can pass your phone around and digitally share images with all your friends and family, but it's just not the same as holding a physical album in your hands. More than ever, in this digital age, having something tangible to touch & feel is a special experience.
3. Technology changes quickly.
Years from now, when your hard-drive dies and technology changes, you won't be worrying about how to update or transfer anything because you'll have all your priceless memories bound in a beautiful, timeless album.
4. Photo albums are one of the greatest gifts you can give your family.
An album is an incredible gift for yourself and I often pull my albums off the shelf to look through during the quiet of the morning, feeling all those moments of love, joy & connection. I need that so badly sometimes! Albums are also an incredible gift to every single person in your family for the same reasons.
5. Heirlooms are priceless.
I very intentionally chose to offer an album that can be affordable from year-to-year for family sessions, but also high-quality enough to be a gorgeous heirloom for generations to come.

This sweet family had never had professional family photos done before, so I was thrilled when they chose me to do the job! They are all so kind and easy-going and I loved how the boys personalities were all so very different. We had fun at a Buffalo Grove forest preserve, running around, racing and looking for frogs over the bridge. I had a great time watching them play together and capturing their family story along the way! Here are some of my favorites...
Here are some favorites from an end of the summer Mini Session I got to do for a family that is very dear to me. They wanted these photos as a gift for their mama...best gift ever, right?! I hope she loved them and will treasure them forever!
My oldest daughter turned five a couple of months ago, but we've been waiting for warmer weather to do a little birthday session. When my husband fell asleep with the other two littles one afternoon last weekend, we snuck out for a date at a local bakery shop before heading to historic Arlington Heights for some fun photos. I LOVED our little mommy-daughter date and was soaking up all the hugs she kept giving me as she thanked me for our special time together. She was so excited to put together a dandelion bouquet for me and I felt so lavished upon by her giant heart. Those couple of hours together started a wonderful spark of reflection on the incredible little lady that she is and I found myself overwhelmed with the gift she is to me and our entire family.
This past year, especially, she has really grown up in so many ways. She started school, doing her morning routine pretty independently, reading a few words, and began taking on the role as big sister more seriously. I could do a huge post of photos from this past year, but for this little space, here are some photos from a little adventure we took after our cupcake date...
This past weekend, I had the great blessing of doing a very special mini session for a remarkable young lady. Two weeks from now she will be making her 1st Communion, so we spent some time in the small and intimate St. James school chapel, capturing this milestone moment for her and her family to be remembered forever. She has such a big heart and showed such reverence while we were in the chapel. I was so impressed and felt very honored to be doing this session with her. Her beautiful dress was handmade, by her grandmother, out of her mama's wedding gown! How special is that?! I am so very excited for her big day!
This newborn session was so fun to do! When Michael and Becky contacted me, they said their hope was to have lifestyle images with the family that would capture this special time of welcoming their little one into their family and their home. I think I squealed inside when I walked into their house, because it is BEAUTIFUL! Becky has such an eye for design and took such care with every single detail of the nursery and I loved capturing their little guy in this wonderful space. Baby was so content during the session and was such a joy to hold and cuddle in between images. When baby needed feeding or diaper changing breaks, I had so much fun following their other little guy around, watching him play and share some special interactions with his dad and grandparents who were in town. Thank you so much, Michael and Becky, for welcoming me into home to capture this priceless story of love and life! I hope these images are treasured for years to come and bring you right back to this incredible moment in time!
Everyone always says it, but it's so true...I can't believe she's already ONE! The year has flown by, starting off a little rocky with night wakings every hour, but as soon as we kicked this little peanut into her own room down the hall, she slept like...well, like a baby. I find myself being intentional with her in the little moments we get alone. When I'm feeding her or putting her to sleep, I breathe in deep to soak up that sweet, baby scent that is still lingering and I hug her a little tighter right before I lie her down. I just don't want to forget and all the time I tell my hubby that I wish I could just bottle up our girls' littleness to treasure forever, because it's just so dang precious. Cheers to our youngest on her 1st birthday and to another wonderful, joy-filled year of memories ahead!
